History-Preserving Hotels

The Payne Mansion Hotel Takes Over the City's Most Expensive Airbnb

The Payne Mansion hotel has stepped away from being the most expensive Airbnb in San Fransisco and is now the city's latest posh hotel. Slated to open in the fall of 2018, this hotel will launch as a full-service establishment complete with an in-house restaurant. Known as the 1881, the restaurant's name is a reference to the year the house was built. The eatery will be helmed by Jean-Paul Peluffo, who previously served as the chef at French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial.

The interior of the Payne Mansion hotel will reflect its history and new elements will be added to work alongside the existing structure. The interior will be designed by Timothy Quillen who will bring matching materials and colors into the space, alongside Victoria and Art Nouveau accessories, furniture, and a collection of 19th and early 20th-century art.
