Emma Marti Converts the Hevresac Hotel in Menorca, Spain

Spanish architect Emma Marti works on the intimate Hevresac Hotel, which only has eight rooms in total. The converted 18th-century building is on the Balearic Island of Menorca. It has five floors from the basement all the way to the attic and originally was owned by a local merchant. The owners now Ignasi Truyol and Stephanie Mahé tapped Emma Marti on the project as she is an old friend.
The owners talk about the project and thoughts behind the design to Dezeen, stating that "The aim of the project was to create a fresh and inspiring hotel that values the beauty of the existing architecture. Martí's intention is for the new materials to coexist and harmonise with the originals, providing a new language, lightness and contemporaneity. I like to work with an honest and frank attitude towards the island's architectural heritage,. I wanted it to be clear what our intervention was, not to highlight it but to highlight the value of what existed in the building."
