Lithuania-based architecture studio arches has designed Sanctum — a nature therapy retreat located in a forested area near Vilnius. This project consists of a main building and seven accommodation cabins integrated into the existing landscape, with the project exploring the relationship between architecture, natural surroundings, and human wellbeing.
The nature therapy retreat's architectural concept draws from Lithuanian wooden architecture traditions reinterpreted through contemporary methods, using cross-laminated timber structures as the primary load-bearing system. The façades combine Kebony-treated pine wood and copper cladding selected for their durability and ability to develop character over time. The main building houses eleven guest rooms, communal dining spaces, an event hall, and wellness areas, all organized to maintain a direct visual and physical relationship with the surrounding landscape. The cabins are positioned among the trees to create individual spaces for quiet retreats that preserve the site's existing character.
