Japanese firm Suzuko Yamada Architects has designed the Nakano House. The residence is nestled in the core of Tokyo and defined by its exposed concrete structure. The raw material can be seen along the walls, furniture products, and stairs. The home is made for a couple, their child, and two cats. The studio was tasked with an open-ended brief, allowing them to explore creatively.
They were told to create an "outer shell for living and space for the cats to run around", so the rest of the house could "come together over time."Yamada explains more on the design and influence: "The city is full of unique buildings packed together in unexpected ways. In between them, you find little alleys with food stalls or pocket parks, and the overall scale somehow feels very human and comfortable. We tried to capture that kind of atmosphere in the design."
