The Design studio Nendo has created a temporary toilet as part of its Minimilet project, a project the agency created in response to the large scale natural disasters that Japan has had to deal with in recent years.

While food and shelter are often top of mind when environmental disasters hit and people are displaced, proper waste disposal services are crucial in maintaining hygiene and preventing illnesses among those affected by these disasters. The Minimilet's transportable toilet comes in kit form and features a toilet seat, aluminum pipes that hold it up, garbage bags, tissues, a privacy tent, and a coagulant liquid – all of which fit into a slim, portable bag. The bag also doubles as a water carrier.

The modular components of this portable toilet kit can be used for multiple purposes, and make for an excellent alternative to waste disposal in the event of an emergency.
