This Brightly Colored Thin Metal Canopy Protects a Playground in Spain

This gorgeous metal canopy designed by Spanish architect Julio Barreno Gutiérrez is a twisting metal archway that looks like a piece of origami artwork. The structure was created to cover a two-storey school playground and protect it from harsh sunlight and rainy day weather elements. The canopy's main function was to protect the ramp and staircase, which connects the two playgrounds.

Barreno Gutiérrez used hot pink and light blue to add an interesting feature that appeals to children. He also wanted to choose a color that stood out atop the all-white playground and school building without being overbearing.

The one-centimeter thick metal canopy perfectly connects the two playgrounds in unison. It is a vibrant, eye-catching addition to the schoolyard and it looks beautiful when it is lit up during the night time with lovely ground-illuminating lights.
