Kiki — of the design duo Kiki and Joost — has created a stunning textile artwork series titled 'Memories of a Garden.' This collection of four jacquard-woven tapestries is produced at the TextielMuseum Tilburg using an unconventional blend of hemp, wool, paper, and golden threads.
The painstakingly intricate Memories of a Garden series emerged from an artist residency within the wildflower gardens of Baest Estate, where the designer worked alongside painter Marc Mulders to translate observations of flora and fauna into layered, impressionistic compositions. The resulting pieces subtly recall magnified medieval manuscript illustrations and provide a tangible connection to urgent environmental themes such as biodiversity loss, urban heat islands, and the disappearance of genuine gardens beneath artificial surfaces.
