Philips' Medication Dispenser device targets individuals who are routinely taking pills and have trouble with vision, memory or cognition. Taking the concept of a standard pill box further with technology, the system features electronic voice alerts and automated dispensing to handle routine dosages. Pills are loaded into a one-ounce plastic cup and released according to any assigned schedules. In total, the system holds up to six doses a day and can hold 60 cups before it needs to be refilled.
Although the system is set up to be fairly foolproof, if a pill is not taken, the system is set up to alert a caretaker. Monitoring is also available for caregivers through Philips Monitoring online. As more baby boomers and the elderly rely on medicine to maintain their health, machines like this help to make taking pills much less of a hassle.
