The 'Mars Case' Shelter Explores the Idea of Life on Mars
Michael Hemsworth — November 12, 2018 — Art & Design
Living on Mars could be in the future for humans in another era, so the 'Mars Case' shelter identifies what could be done to accommodate them on the Red Planet.
The dwelling was designed by Open Architecture in collaboration with Xiaomi and is inspired by Walden by Henry David Thoreau, which is evident given its focus on self-reliance and total simplicity. The shelter has one portion that also looks like a suitcase, while the other is an inflatable front area that would open up to reveal ample space for living once the inhabitant arrives on the planet.
The 'Mars Case' shelter is a complete concept that is a one-off dwelling that is likely to remain as such given its inability to withstand the harsh conditions on Mars.
