Social media has a way of encouraging users to express their views in a way that is often extremely harmful to others, and Vice is aiming to broaden minds with its 'Like What You Hate' campaign.
The Like What You Hate tool can be connected to one's Facebook account to encourage a broader worldview. The tool does this by analyzing the kinds of content the user has already liked and challenges them to engage with pages, people and groups that will likely challenge their personal beliefs. With each like, one's Facebook feed becomes more balanced, reminding social media users that there is a place for everyone to have a unique perspective.
Facebook is currently in the process of testing a feature that will allow people to downrank comments made on public posts—but it is not the "dislike" button that social media platform users have been demanding.
