Jean-Michel Basquiat was one of the most iconic artists of the 80s. He had a knack for unique contemporary art and was known for his rebellious techniques. Tequila distillers '1800 Tequila' decided to pay homage to the late artist with its latest collection of limited-edition bottles.
The bottles feature six of his original paintings, which are an expressive mix of contemporary art and graffiti drawings. A spokesperson for 1800 Tequila says the reasoning behind the collection is that Basquiat "shared the same core values as the world’s most singularly drinkable tequila, consistently refusing to fall victim to gratuitous trend."
The nonconforming artist will be the the third artist who the spirit company has featured, falling behind Shepard Fairey and Gary Baseman. However, this is the first time it has dedicated every bottle to one artist.
