Disney Cruise Line is expanding into Japan with Japan-based Disney cruises aboard Disney Imagination, its first ship scheduled to depart from Tokyo in spring 2029. Operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd., the vessel will introduce Japanese families to Disney-themed vacations at sea, extending the entertainment experiences associated with Tokyo Disney Resort into a new travel setting.
As part of Disney's Wish-class fleet, Disney Imagination will feature themed entertainment, dining, and guest services. Its exterior will showcase Ariel and Sebastian from The Little Mermaid, with the characters incorporated into artwork celebrating the ship's imaginative identity. Additional onboard attractions and sailing routes will be revealed later.
For Oriental Land, the cruise business creates an opportunity to diversify beyond its existing resort operations. Disney Cruise Line can also reach Japanese travelers through local departures, strengthening its presence in the country's family tourism market.
