J Kidman Architecture's Temple House Frames a Home with Ceremonial Form

— November 16, 2025 — Art & Design
The Temple House frames a residential layout with ceremonial geometry by arranging its plan around two internal courtyards and a linear circulation spine. The structure uses a trapezoid roof, ribbed limestone and bagged masonry to create a monolithic exterior, while steel columns and large glazed openings introduce transparency along the primary axis. The layout positions social areas toward the central corridor and private rooms at one end to maintain clear zoning. The design incorporates built-in benches, sheltered thresholds and sliding glass doors to support a consistent indoor-outdoor connection across the site.

The project integrates the landscape through planted canopies and framed sightlines that link each room to the courtyards. The controlled material palette reduces visual noise and reinforces the formal character of the plan. The architectural strategy emphasizes spatial procession, encouraging movement from public to private zones in a defined sequence.
