The innrou Wi-Fi Router Concept Looks Like an Incense Burner
The innrou Wi-Fi router concept is a design project by Yuan Chen that reimagines the typical wireless router as an object that also contributes to the sensory atmosphere of a room. The concept’s form intentionally resembles a traditional incense burner, using soft curves and hidden antennas to sit comfortably on a desk or shelf without the technical appearance of most network hardware. Instead of red and blue status lights, the front surface presents a minimal set of dots and a subtle logo to maintain visual calm.
Beneath its sculptural exterior, the device functions as a standard router with Ethernet ports at the back and internal antennas for connectivity. It also incorporates a system of replaceable essential-oil sticks, which slide into the top like modern incense and emit fragrance into the room during operation. The narrative for the design draws a cultural parallel between the ritual of lighting incense for guidance and using the internet as a source of information, with the scent feature intended to add a playful ritual to a product category usually hidden and overlooked.
