For theaters with screens large enough, IMAX laser projection may be a reality of the very near future. The laser projection system will offer a considerably brighter image than traditional projection and will likely be the most obvious benefit of the upgraded systems.
In addition to laser-powered projection, the upleveled IMAX theaters will boast 12 channels of sound, doubling the number of regular IMAX theater systems, which have six. The first installation of the innovative new IMAX system will be at LA's TCL Chinese Theater. The IMAX laser projection system was developed after a $60 million investment.
In order to get audiences hyped up ahead of the first installation at Los Angeles' TCL Chinese Theater, IMAX released a countdown video to Furious 7 that highlighted some of the impending high-end features.
