IKEA'S 391 Square Foot display in Brooklyn's Red Hook region follows up on the pressing need to accommodate miniscule apartments in New York. Urban sprawl and overpopulation have compromised space in the bustling city, largely to the detriment of students, families and new residents.
The Swedish decor hub has managed to make the tiny dwelling appear almost lofty. Every corner of the bedroom, kitchen and living room have been utilized in its micro model with fixtures, foot stools and book shelves.
This design concept allows Brooklyn locals to live comfortably despite the limitations that come with the small dwellings, and while the specific color schemes or patterns may not be for everyone, the display nonetheless offers solutions to a pervasive metropolitan issue.
