Fish Lifestyle-Inspired Residences

Beef Architekti Designs the Bright House of Hills in Slovakia

Beef Architekti is a design studio based in Bratislava, and it has just created the House of Hills. The home is defined by a series of concrete slabs that are inspired by how fish gills allow light and air through. It has a monolithic look and the slabs are brushed in an organic white plaster on the sides. The bedrooms each open into an individual terrace which are uniquely formed with the unaligned walls at the exterior.

The studio explains the design to Dezeen: "The analogy of the fish gills emerged as a way to describe the design, conveying the idea of a house that breathes like a fish. The connection to gills is most pronounced on the side facade of the kitchen, where the angled elements create a dynamic visual effect. Each gill is carefully positioned at a different angle to optimise the view from the kitchen into the garden, reinforcing the sense of movement and adaptability seen in nature."
