Time spent in the classroom and pouring over textbooks is valuable when learning a new language like English, but the Brazilian language school CNA and FCB Brasil developed 'Hello Pizza' as a way to immerse students in real-time conversations with American customers.
Hello Pizza has Brazilian students sub in for the people who usually take pizza orders for the Bella Vista Pizzaria in Los Angeles. As an incentive for customers to be patient, people calling in to order a pizza are offered a discount if they opt-in to place their order with a Brazilian student. During this time, students are challenged to take the order, while also keeping the conversation going—the longer the conversation, the more discount a customer will get.
Last year, FCB Brasil made itself known for the award-winning Speaking Exchange initiative it created between Brazilian students and elderly American citizens.
