There's certainly no shortage of healthy snack bars to choose from, but not all of them have an ingredient list as interesting as products from Grub. Alongside dark chocolate, dried mango, coconut and pumpkin seeds is an unexpected ingredient—cricket flour. This combination of ingredients provides a rich supply of antioxidants, vitamins and helps to balance the immune system and blood pressure.
These cricket flour snack bars are now crowdfunding on Kickstarter, hoping to garner enough support for these snack bars that contain more protein than beef, more calcium than milk and a greater amount of iron than spinach can deliver.
Although eating insects is common in many cultures, much of the West has been reluctant to adopt these practices. However, as global the population continue to rise, alternative protein sources will become a necessity to reduce land and energy use.
