Timeless Contemporary House Designs

&Pierre has completed House on Georgian Bay

&Pierre recently completed a residential project on Georgian Bay. The 3,780 square foot home replaced an aging family cottage, and the new structure is designed with principles of aging in place and long-term livability.

The house on Georgian Bay boasts expansive glazing that frames shoreline views. Its contemporary and timeless character is anchored by a restrained material palette of white oak, locally sourced limestone, plaster, and linen with muted coastal hues. This use of natural and local materials contributes to environmental sustainability by minimizing transportation, but also ensures that the building will age gracefully. The organization, across three levels,  supports intuitive circulation, flexible living, and easy hosting of extended family and friends.

&Pierre’s residential project demonstrates that a new build can honor the memory of an original cottage while introducing contemporary comfort, accessibility, and durability.

Aging-in-place Design
Homes designed for long-term livability create opportunities for products and systems that seamlessly integrate accessibility, universal design, and aesthetic refinement to extend independent living.
Locally Sourced Material Integration
A focus on regional stone, timber, and finishes opens pathways for supply-chain models and prefabricated components that reduce carbon footprint while preserving local character.
Expansive Glazing for View Framing
Large window systems that prioritize connection to landscape suggest demand for advanced glazing assemblies that balance thermal performance, durability, and unobstructed sightlines.

Who This Affects Most

Residential Architecture
Contemporary cottages that honor historical context while offering modern comfort indicate room for design firms to develop repeatable, site-responsive templates for seasonal and year-round living.
Sustainable Building Materials
Durable natural finishes and low-transport sourcing point toward material manufacturers innovating modular, certified product lines tailored to longevity and regional provenance.
Accessible Luxury Real Estate
Demand for properties combining high-end aesthetics with age-friendly features suggests business models blending concierge services, retrofit packages, and resale strategies for multigenerational ownership.
