La Nony FAMILI Collaborates on a Home in Quebec

— May 14, 2026 — Art & Design
La Nony FAMILI, in collaboration with Le Local Design, has completed the Maison de la Coulée douce — a modern multi-generational home in Sutton, Quebec. The residence was built on a sloping forested site overlooking a pond with a simple elongated form oriented to maximize natural light and visual connections while minimizing tree removal. The floor area of this project measures nearly 4,000 square feet.

Key features of the Maison de la Coulée douce include a built-in micro-cement living room centred around a fireplace, a kitchen set back from the main living area with a custom wooden unit. The modern multi-generational home also boasts arches and rounded forms throughout the architecture and furniture, as well as acoustic treatment and lighting designed to define mood.

The use of micro-cement is noteworthy because the material is more common in Mediterranean or Mexican interiors but rare in Quebec. It creates a sculptural, enveloping quality that is durable and easy to clean.

Trend Themes

  1. Multi-generational Living Design — A rising need for homes that comfortably host multiple generations suggests modular spatial strategies that balance privacy, shared amenities and aging-in-place features.
  2. Material Localization and Hybridization — The use of Mediterranean materials like micro-cement in Quebec highlights potential for region-adapted material systems that merge sculptural aesthetics with local performance requirements.
  3. Site-responsive Forested Slope Integration — Designs sited on sloped, wooded parcels reveal opportunities for foundation, drainage and circulation innovations that preserve canopy while maximizing daylight and views.

Industry Implications

  1. Residential Architecture — Shifts in household composition are driving architectural practices toward flexible programing, collaborative client workflows and integrated multi-generational typologies.
  2. Interior Materials Manufacturing — Regional adoption of novel finishes indicates a market for climate-tuned, easy-to-maintain material formulations and new distribution models tailored to local trades.
  3. Acoustic and Lighting Solutions — Mood-focused acoustic treatment and layered lighting in domestic settings point toward systems that seamlessly combine sound control, circadian lighting and customizable ambiance.
