In place of tomatoes, this unique fruit salsa recipe uses clementines. While it's typical to find recipes that pair bright red tomatoes with chunks of fresh mango, strawberries or kiwi, this SF Gate recipe does away with tomatoes entirely.
The zesty citrus salsa requires just a few simple ingredients: a handful of clementines, green onion, fresh cilantro or mint leaves, a pinch of sea salt and for a spicy kick, a serrano chili pepper. To prepare, hardly any equipment is needed and it makes the perfect amount for a single serving. Paired with bread, crackers or used as a dip for vegetables, this would make a fantastic alternative to traditional Mexican salsa. Since there are no tomatoes in sight, this clementine salsa has a bright, unusual orange color and texture to it.
