The Francesco Sambo 'Selfportrait' project is a collection of extremely dark images that look like a series of science experiments gone awry. These self-portraits are incredibly stylized, using digital retouching to create some seriously eerie scenes.
Despite the morbid examples of DIY dentistry and humanized reptilians in the Francesco Sambo 'Selfportrait' series above, I most certainly remain a steadfast fan of Sambo's work.
Implications - Morbid themes continue to dominate society, which is a surprising change. The entertainment industry has been pushing the boundaries of frightful elements for consumers who want to feel that spine-tingling adrenaline they get when fear is put into place. While the imagery is disturbing, morbidity is an effective concept for businesses looking to make their products memorable to consumers.
