Convenient Meal-Making Robots

Lawson's Robotic Food-Making Machine Prepares Deep-Fried Chicken

Various kinds of drink-pouring and food-making machines are commonly found in convenience stores but Lawson, a convenience store chain in Japan, is now introducing consumers to a robot vendor that boasts the ability to prepare deep-fried chicken dishes.

The 'Karaage-kun Robo' is designed to prepare “karaage” or "deep-fried food," which is widely available through convenience stores. Although consumers may be familiar with getting their deep-fried food order from a person, the Karaage-kun Robo simplifies the experience by automating the preparation of regular, spicy and cheesy options served at Lawson.

To make the most of the machine, consumers will receive a pack with a printed barcode that can be scanned and inserted into the food-making machine itself to initiate the cooking of one's fried food order.
