Felipe Escudero is the architect behind the minimalist Magnolia House located at the top of a mountain valley in the Los Arrayanas neighborhood of Puembo, Ecuador. The house boasts 700 square meters and is centered around a magnolia tree and a central courtyard.
The one-story home frames a large magnolia tree within a plant-covered patio, integrating nature into the concrete house's design. According to the architect, the project was modeled entirely to accommodate the focal tree. The large home is topped with a flat concrete slab to create spans of overhanging around the house, which provide natural cooling in the spaces below them. This helps to soften the rigid and heavy concrete material to create an illusionary floating effect.
