Barbie's New Fashionistas Line Features a Wheelchair and Prosthetic Limbs

Barbie broadens its toy selection with the latest Fashionistas Line that features a doll reliant on a wheelchair and a doll that has a removable prosthetic leg. The American toy manufacturing label Mattel gathered research over the years and have launched a wide series of diverse dolls -- created to embody many body types and cultures, also embracing a wide range of careers.

Mattel states, "as a brand, we can elevate the conversation around physical disabilities by including them into our fashion doll line to further showcase a multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion." in 1997, Mattel launched 'Wheelchair Becky; and it turned out to be incompatible with other Barbie accessories. The new dolls have a specially articulated body to move with the wheelchair and easily sit.
