Austin Smith has been intentionally stirring up controversy with his what-some-might-call 'disturbing' facial art work. Just graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the young artist believes there is power to be found in discomfort -- as "everyone needs to step ouf of their comfort zone sometimes to experience what it's like to have all eyes on you."
Austin Smith's facial art is characterized by many motifs and topics. From Hellraiser-like wearable sculpture of nails, tiles and butterflies to a more harmonious ceramic decoration with stars, hearts, circles and others.
One needs to embrace the outrageous and creepy expresiveness in Austim Smith's facial artwork. For many would agree that if a creative work is not strange or uncomfortable, then it is not very progressive and perception-challenging.
