Dezeen teams up with with French illustrator and animator duo the Jullien Brothers to tell the story behind five Emeco chair designs. The American furniture company's history dates back to 1944 with the launch of the Navy Chair -- a highly durable furniture piece made for the demanding environments of navy ships and submarines.
The film short features Emeco CEO Gregg Buchbinder telling the audience that "[they] make chairs in America, mostly from recycled stuff, often by hand, but always to last." The accompanying illustrations bear the charcoal-mimicking artistic style of the Jullien Brothers. Each of the featured Emeco chair designs are introduced by Gregg and their history is unfolded through the quirky sketch-like animated story frames.
