These images of New York's East Side Access underground route offer a sneak peak at what's to come of transportation in the city. The Long Island Rail Road extension will be the new face of Grand Central Station, providing fast paced transport for approximately 162,000 passengers.
New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority commissioned these photos. The company wished to show the progress of the project to the public as the initiative began in 2006. While the route was originally supposed to be ready for 2014, it has been pushed back till 2019. It has nonetheless developed at an exponential rate since its foundation, seen in these snapshots of construction trucks, pipe lines and a host of labor workers.
