Dual-Display Vehicle Infotainment Interfaces

GM Adds Split-Screen CarPlay to 2027 Pickups

General Motors introduced a revamped infotainment interface that supports split-screen Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while keeping vehicle gauges visible. The system will debut in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, using the pickups’ roughly 60 inches of combined display space, including a passenger screen that can stream video.

The layout lets drivers access compatible phone functions without replacing the entire display, preserving space for vehicle information. GM worked with Apple and Google on the integration, which places familiar smartphone tools beside dedicated vehicle panels and reduces the need to switch between full-screen views. For drivers, the approach keeps apps and gauges accessible in one layout. It also reflects a broader automotive software trend: balancing customer demand for smartphone compatibility with automakers’ desire to control their digital environments.

For GM, the system offers a compromise that preserves its proprietary interface and potential service revenue while restoring popular phone integration to select gas-powered vehicles.
