In recent months, video calls have become one of the most effective ways for professionals to connect for meetings, conferences and digital events and Teooh wants to offer people a different way to interact with one another using virtual spaces and avatars. Rather than sitting in front of a computer or camera screen to connect with colleagues, people could log into what seems like a video game but is actually a virtual conference space. These spaces can take the form of wood-paneled lounges and auditoriums, which are arranged with chairs for animated avatars.
The platform launched in beta in early April and can be used on computer and iOS devices. As CEO Don Stein describes, "Gamers have been doing this for a decade in World of Warcraft and Second Life. We can now do that for the everyday person who may not own an Xbox, or a gaming PC or a headset.”
