The latest improbable media darling is Leipzig Zoo’s cross-eyed opossum named Heidi. Her soaring popularity has seen over 65,000 likes on Facebook so far, a hit video song on YouTube, a soft toy inspiration and a brand new website.

The cross-eyed opossum’s endearing expression has captured many fans attention. The 2 1/2-year-old cross-eyed opossum is otherwise normal and healthy.  Its unusual eyes do not affect its normal activities. The oddity could have been because of malnutrition when it was young or perhaps because of the fat deposits in the eyes as she is considered obese.

The animal and its sibling were originally found abandoned and taken to a wild animal shelter. From a nearly hopeless beginning to a media sensation is quite a change for this unlikely cross-eyed opossum.
