From the start, CREDO Mobile has woven philanthropy into its business model, promising to donate 1% of long distance service charges to nonprofits that are voted on by its customers.
"At CREDO, we've supported progressive causes for more than 25 years, through automatic donations from our members and our citizen-activism programs," the website explains. "Since 1985 we've raised more than $67 million for nonprofit groups like Earthjustice, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU."
While CREDO Mobile doesn't accept phones from other carriers, the company does have an innovative phone recycling program for users wanting to get rid of their old devices in a earth-friendly way.
Their dedication to the planet goes beyond giving to environmental organizations and recycling technologies -- CREDO also prints its bills on recycled paper, and plants trees to further offset paper use. They're also part of Carbonfund.org's CarbonFree program and have had success lobbying for numerous causes.
