The Cognitive Immersive Room Teaches Language in a Technological Space

Known as the Cognitive Immersive Room, this impressive IBM technology pairs an AI-powered chatbot with a 360-degree panoramic display to create an immersive holodeck-style classroom. Designed to place users into a variety of immersive classrooms, the Cognitive Immersive Room is currently being geared towards teaching language skills. Currently, the immersive classroom is being used to teach students Mandarin and does so by dropping them into scenarios, such as restaurants in China and tai chi classes.

The goal of the Cognitive Immersive Room is to inhibit education through immersion. The experience is further bolstered by the use of cameras, Kinect devices and microphones, all of which give the user a greater sense of interaction and immersion within the space.
