SPACE10, IKEA's experimental design lab, worked with audio-visual creative studio FIELD.SYSTEMS to come up with the concept for Virtual Oasis to support everyday life and well-being. With this exploration, the designers found themselves asking: "What if augmented reality could transport you into a meditative retreat?"
Virtual Oasis uses augmented reality and spatial audio to provide a guided meditation journey. Thanks to mixed reality, the experience turns familiar household scenes into relaxing retreats. While there are plenty of apps and wearables that help to support meditative experiences, this one takes a more immersive and holistic approach.
With much of indoor life still happening at home, this experiment speaks to the way people are looking to create pockets of peace in their living spaces, especially while working remotely.
