The designers at MMDM Arquitectes have created this contemporary and innovative design for the Castellbisbal School in Barcelona. With its unique checkerboard exterior, made with rows of grey and white blinds, this structure is definitely a cool contemporary spin on modern educational buildings.
The building, which is located right next to a cemetery, features a large courtyard where students can hang out between classes, as well as a big inclined plane leading up to the front entrance. Because of space constraints, the designers have also designed the building to avoid "useless areas." According to MMDM Arquitectes, the Castellbisbal School -- and institution for children ages 3 to 16 -- has been designed to avoid residual spaces and to ensure that students can "move from one [end] to the other without going through the same point again."
