Pixelating Public Architecture

CASIS Headquarters Embodies an Alien Style to Suit its Function

The creative behind the CASIS Headquarters wished to develop a new language of architecture in order to better express the intention of the building's presence in Manhattan, New York. The goal was for the work of the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space to become known to members of the public through an attempt to educate them on their findings and achievements.

Katie Stranix certainly did dream up a completely foreign-looking proposal that features a heavy-looking abstract mass of structure hovering above the urban plaza in a couple of places. The cladding is just as unfamiliar, appearing as a disintegrating skin of rough rectangular pixels that protrude from the various facades. The CASIS Headquarters houses exhibition halls and displays retired NASA equipment.
