It's no secret that the traditional knob and dial-style car controls are being phased out, but the Acura Precision Cockpit aims to take a big leap forward. Unveiled by parent brand Honda at the LA Auto Show, the Acura Precision Cockpit features a touchpad in place of the gearshift that enables drivers to control more with less attention required. This includes the ability to shift gears, control the in-car entertainment system and many more features that can be supported down the line once the functionality is debuted on the market.
Consumers are becoming more accustomed to touchpads and touchscreen interfaces thanks to smartphones and other technology products that have now become somewhat ubiquitous. As such, the Acura Precision Cockpit car controls come as a logical next step for the vehicle interior to act as one of the next steps towards autonomous vehicles.
