BuzzFeed and popular Tencent-backed app WeChat recently announced a partnership that will see the Internet news brand create content for the VoIP platform. As noted by TechCrunch, BuzzFeed's foray into the world of chat apps became a more prominent in summer 2014, when the web-based news brand hired a manager for its chat app presence.
The Buzzfeed and WeChat partnership is orchestrated around an official BuzzFeed account on the platform, with editorial being managed by the aforementioned newly developed position. BuzzFeed is arguably the largest media partner of WeChat to date and will likely benefit from the platform's strong presence in the China market.
Other notable brand partnerships associated with WeChat include a Burberry campaign launched on the platform in summer 2014.
