BikeFlex, a bicycle rental company based in the United Kingdom, announced a partnership with Solarcycle UK that will bring renewable energy bike charging to customers across the UK. BikeFlex has previously partnered with a number of bike manufacturers to provide the bicycles, each of which will be compatible with Solarcycle charging stations.
The Solarcycle charging stations, named SolarPoint pillars, collect solar energy and store excess energy within the pillar. The pillars can then be connected to any nearby e-bikes to charge them with renewable solar energy. Solarcycle notes that its pillars can be designed and branded with the branding of any partner, such as BikeFlex, to help with marketing.
The Solarpoints can also be rented by customers or businesses to provide consistent access to e-bike charging in certain locations, if desired.
