Social enterprise, The Chernobyl Spirit Company, recently announced the launch of its newest liquor: the Atomik Vodka that is radioactive-free and safe for consumption. The launch was part of the enterprise's larger mission to support various local communities who were affected by the nuclear disaster.
The Atomik Vodka was made by a team of UK and Ukraine scientists that was led by professor Jim Smith of the UK's University of Portsmouth and focused on the transfer of radioactivity to the crops in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. “I think this is the most important bottle of spirits in the world because it could help the economic recovery of communities living in and around the abandoned areas,” said Smith.
The Chernobyl Spirit Company will be donating 75% of the vodka's profits to the affected Chernobyl communities.
