The Peak by architecture studio Grimshaw is an affordable housing solution that is specifically designed to prevent youth homelessness. The project is done in collaboration with Australian charitable organization Kids Under Cover.
The dwelling is essentially a single-story cube that is clad in dark metal and sustainably sourced timber. The aesthetic of the prefab unit is decisively modern and the glazed corner allows for a substantial influx of natural light. The total footprint of The Peak is 32.5 square meters which calls for a cleverly arranged layout with smart storage spaces and exceptionally functional furniture. In addition, Grimshaw's design is made to be modular and flexible as it can move to new locations with ease.
The affordable housing solution is ideal for single occupant use and therefore, optimized for the millennial who is attending school or has an entry-level job.
