Studio TEST presents the new Prefab House Changeover, which is a compact structure designed in a bold red hue resting on top of a collection of shorcrete pillars. It is nestled in the woodlands of Barcelona, and the Spanish design firm has worked on a unique approach when faced with the challenges of restoring the dilapidated wooden home, which was originally constructed on a nine-pillar base.
It was left to decay in the mountains, and instead of going for a full demolition, the studio proposed three replacement strategies to the owners. They landed on a modular prefabricated system and brought attention to a more flexible living experience for both indoor and outdoors. It covers 60 square metres and is made up of eight balloon-framed modules.
