From energy poverty entrepreneurs to design-focused LED lanterns, these kerosene-conscious innovations are part of many social enterprises who are attempting to rid the world of dangerous kerosene lamps while at the same time offering alternative lighting initiatives.
"The move to off-grid lighting is transforming lives and economies in developing countries around the world by increasing incomes, assisting educational development and improving health and safety," writes the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), which connects business with each other and with the bottom of the pyramid (BoP).
Some of the kerosene-conscious innovations featured here on SocialBusiness.org offer a couple of products for sale and others are more systemic, like Simpa Networks, which targets whole markets in India, or Solar Sister, which uses entrepreneurship to form local partnerships and prosperity.
