The Soft Solids is a modular lighting system made from soy-and-stearin wax cylinders that stack vertically onto repurposed lamp hardware. Each wax module is shaped as a smooth cylinder with an internal cavity that holds an LED element, allowing the lamp to glow evenly through the material. Users can add or remove modules to change the lamp’s height, creating table-height or tower-like configurations depending on how many pieces are stacked. The wax blend is formulated to stay heat-resistant during use and can be melted down and recast when needed.
The lamps read as solid sculptural forms during the day and shift into soft, diffused light sources at night. The stacking system creates a totem-like silhouette that adjusts easily without tools, and the reused hardware anchors the modules securely.
