Cocoa is one of the areas in which fair trade has developed enormously in the last decade or so -- and these ethical chocolate innovations prove that putting more thought into your sweets is not simply good, but good for business.

"Cocoa farmers are often forced to negotiate with intermediaries who pay only a fraction of the actual value of their crop," says Fairtrade Canada on its website. "As a result, farmers are often paid prices which don’t begin to cover the costs of production."
