Cronut creator Dominique Ansel introduced another never-before-done breakfast meal at New York’s Taste of the Nation fundraiser last night called the 'Waffogato.' The meal is a waffle innovation inspired by the classic Italian dessert of ice cream topped with espresso.
'Waffogato' is a waffle-espresso hybrid, but boasts much more than just those two flavors; Tahitian vanilla ice cream is set inside the crispy waffle mold and warm maple-syrup-spiked espresso is poured over it. It's then topped with sea salt and pearl sugar.
The ice-cream-infused waffle slowly melts into the hot espresso as you eat it, which makes for a delicious drink to wash down the final bites of your waffle with. Little tapioca pearls laid in the vanilla ice-cream also float up once the ice cream starts to melt to add extra textures and tastes.
