Czech Artist Veronika Richterova Makes Creative Art from PET Plastics

Czech artist Veronika Richterova creates beautiful, intricate sculptures out of recycled plastic PET bottles. Richterova upcycles the colorful but toxic plastics into plants, animals and a few over-the-top light fixtures by bending the plastic after it has been heated.

Working with this particular medium since 2004, Richterova has developed many methods that lead to particularly shaped sculptures.

The creative upcycled art is an interesting initiative given the overwhelming abundance of PET plastics in landfills. Aiming to create a PET plastic folk art movement, Veronika Richterova deems her work "creative recycling," and has developed an in-depth set of her procedures detailing the methods in which she collects, processes and works with the bottles before turning them into art.
