Above-Water Hydrofoil Ferries

Candela Has Designed an Above-Water Boat to Help Save Venice

As the Italian city of Venice continues to sink, designers and architects are rigorously working to develop plans that will preserve the city's renowned and charming architecture. The wake created by motorboats that travel along the Venetian canals contributes to the city's critical sinking problem. Recognizing that water travel is an integral part of Venetian transport, Candela has developed a design for a hydrofoil ferry that flies above the water.

Called the P-30, Candela believes this innovative design can save time, money and help preserve the city's infrastructure. The concept is radical in nature; however, the company feels confident in its pursuit to develop a real-life P-30. The device will permit 30+ knot speeds dock-to-dock and will not create a wake. The P-30 will be much faster and efficient than traditional ferries, which will save travelers valuable time and money.
