The Place de la Bastille Undergoes a Remodel for Foot Traffic
References: aut-idf.org & fastcoexist
To ensure that popular Parisian landmarks and destinations are more accessible to consumers travelling by foot, the Place de la Bastille is undergoing a remodelling to better suit pedestrians and cyclists. The remodelling will shift the focus of auto transportation as the main way to get around the area to focus more on environmentally friendly ways of travel. The project is put together by Placemeter and Transportation Users Association in France with an attempt to create a greener European city.
Currently the Place de la Bastille is accessible mainly by car as a landlocked island. The new design will bring more greenery to the area and routes accessible by food by adding grass for guests to sit on and addition walkways for biking or moving around by foot. The project is aimed applying the same initiative to other popular Parisian locations as well, in the future.
